Make Your Own Halloween Piñata

I’m back again with an easy, fun, DIY that can mostly be create out of things around your home!

My budget is tight this year, so I’m trying to get creative with ways I can upcycle things to make something new for Halloween without breaking the bank.

If you have cereal boxes or other thin cardboard, tissue paper, glue and tape you can create your very own piñata for decor or for your next Halloween bash!

Ghoul Gak: Sensory Play for Toddlers

Looking for a messy and fun sensory play for you and your kiddos this season? Whip up some easy ghoul gak!

All you need is cornstarch, water (food coloring optional) and some fun Halloween toys and accessories.

This stuff is so fun to play with because it’s a solid and a liquid and messy and just plain weird!

Upcycled Halloween Planters

This past spring, I decided to put lots of beautiful planted flowers in old paint cans I recycled and decorated from my garage, which then of course inspired me to create a wonderland land of hand painted Halloween planters for the fall.

I decided to get started painting my goulish containers now so that I will have an abundance of pots for mums when the time comes to plant them ( because it is too darn hot to plant them in this Oklahoma summer heat).

The great thing about upcycling planters from containers is that you could also use smaller containers for indoor plants or herbs to decorate with and display now! I recommend using tin cans, paint cans, yogurt containers, etc.

DIY Painted Stacking Pumpkins

I am all about inexpensive decor this season. Plus, decorations for the outside get more of a chance to be displayed this season in my life with two toddlers and things that are not fragile get even more of a chance to make the Halloween decor cut! These plastic stacking pumpkins I found at Five Below for $5.55 had to go home with me because I wanted to paint them and give them a whimsical look on my front porch.

Halloween Monster Shirt Activity for Kids

I am already working on getting my kids into the Halloween spirit by creating spooky activities they can join in on!

Our latest adventure is creating our very home handmade finger painted monster shirts. This is a great activity for toddlers or older kids as well. I had to add some final touches to each monster tee, but older kids could have a blast adding their own monster face, however my 1-year-old and 2-year-old are not quite ready to paint with such detail.

I love this activity too, because now my boys have a little keepsake from their toddler years that we could dress a stuffed animal in or make small pillow from once they grow out of it. It’s kinda like a never ended craft in that regard…

This is a rather inexpensive craft if you already have the supplies, you’ll just need to pick up some new shirts to paint on! Keep reading for more monster shirt activity inspiration:

DIY Frankenstein Flower Pots

I love to fill my pots and planters around the front porch with mums as soon as they are in stock in the fall. Sometimes, this is a little premature because it’s still sweltering in Oklahoma in September and my poor little mums quickly turn into crunchy nuggets instead of feathery, bushy, fall delights.

To help pass the time so that I plant my mums at the right time, I’ve decided to create some cute Frankenstein pots to adorn my spooky porch. Last year my shared creation was my mesh Halloween wreath (I feel like I made three of them…) and this year I’ve decided to make a bunch of these jolly monsters for my mom, Grandma, and friends!

You truly do not need to be an expert painter to create a Frankenstein pot and you can make them however you want – he or she is your monster masterpiece!

If you’d like some inspiration on how to make one, keep on reading!

Creepy Baby Doll Head Candelabra

I have finally got to moving on my first Halloween craft project of the season! I wanted to do this last year but time escaped me and I couldn’t quite find exactly what I wanted at the time.

If you’re into the creepy baby doll theme, this DIY/craft inspiration is for you! I have been captivated by the creepy doll theme and wanted to take it to a whole new level by attaching doll heads to a candelabra to create a decorative art piece to haunt my home.

Polymer Clay Springoween Pins

Who’s feeling crafty this spring?! I like to beat those I-wish-it-were-Halloween-blues by doing some spooky crafts! I myself have been getting into making pins and earrings out of polymer clay. I’ve always wanted to give it try and found it to be a fairly inexpensive and fun way to create all sorts of charms and accessories. I’m still very much in the early stages of perfecting the art of working with polymer clay – but I learn something new and inspiring each time I sit down to mold with it. I want to share how I made this bright and colorful jack-o-lantern pins for spring if you too want to start sculpting with clay – they’re super simple and minimal tools are required!

My 2018 Outdoor Haunt

One of my favorite things about the Halloween season is driving around and seeing everyone’s haunted houses, spooky stoops, and grinning gourds. I decided (despite the unseasonably warm temperature) to haunt the front of my house that last week in September and wanted to share with you how it turned out!
