Spooky Good Style: Creep in a T-Shirt

Creep (both 1 and 2) is one of my absolute favorite thriller movies.  There’s something so disturbing and perfect about this movie written and produced by Patrick Brice and Mark Duplass (I love Mark Duplass’s work – acting, his band, eveything!).

So it was a given that I would jump on the opportunity to promote and show off my favorite thriller in fashion form when Cavity Colors released their Creep line this fall!

Haunted Hometown: The Brady Theater

haunted hometown brady theater

I have some of my fondest memories at the 104-year-old Brady Theater in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Everything from seeing STOMP! and the Beatles Tribute band with my family when I was a child, to experiencing the exhilarating sounds and fantastic performances from bands such as Vampire Weekend, Death Cab for Cutie, Cold War Kids, the Naked and Famous, Metric, Weezer and so much more in my high school years to early-20’s. Most notably, my husband proposed to me inside this haunted structure on April 13, 2012 (on my 21st birthday) during the Avett Brothers concert while they played their song “January Wedding.” Not only does this location hold a history for me personally, but it also is woven deep into Tulsa’s history and tells the history of the spirits that haunt it. Love at First Fright: A Halloween Themed Wedding Shower

My brother is getting hitched on October 6 and my mom and I threw a bridal shower for his bride-to-be and my future sister on Saturday, Sept. 22! Since I volunteered to host it at my house – it was a no brainer that the event would need to be Halloween themed. I already had my decor out, so I embraced the atmosphere and called it a “Love at First Fright” wedding shower.

I wanted to share some photos, ideas and games we played at this frightfully fun shower so that YOU can be inspired to host one for a friend or family member this fall! Continue reading “Love at First Fright: A Halloween Themed Wedding Shower”

Jack-o-Lanterns Throughout the Years

The first pumpkins my husband and I carved together when we were dating in 2011.

As we get nearer to October, I begin to contemplate what kind of pumpkin creation I will make. A good jack-o-lantern deserves much thought and precise execution – something that I lack when it comes to pumpkin carving. My husband on the other hand KILLS it at carving up a gourd. I attribute his successful carving and steady hand to the amount of patience he has (I am the most impatient person) along with his creative background (he is musician like myself, and a graphic artist).

This post is a bit of a an homage to all pumpkins past and future! I also hope you will find some inspiration for your jack-o-lantern this year by reading it.

Haunted Hometown: The Thomas Gilcrease House

haunted hometown tg house

I’ll be doing a new series on the blog highlighting haunted locations in my own hometown of Tulsa, OK. Many of these spots I learned about during a P.I.T.T. (Paranormal Investigation Team of Tulsa) tour I went on in 2009.  During the tour, our last stop was here at the Thomas Gilcrease house on the Gilcrease Museum grounds. I remember our tour guide sharing that this site was one of the most actively haunted sites in Tulsa. Being an art history nerd, I’ve visited the Gilcrease Museum and grounds many times, and I have not personally experienced anything supernatural, but many visitors, especially museum staff have reported some eerie encounters.

Halloween Library Book Haul

I love gearing up for the Halloween season with some good Halloween books – everything from scary stories, how-to’s, recipes and other tales. I’m also all about saving money, so I often visit my local library to get my Halloween reading fix for free. My library has an awesome app that let’s me enter in my search term (which was Halloween), search the catalog and request to have the books I want sent to my local branch for pick up. It makes it a lot easier to peruse the Halloween collection at home and decide which ones I want!

I’m going to be completely honest, I am a bit of a slow reader so I’ve not finished all these books yet, but I want to share with you what I found in case you’re looking for some frightening new reads:

The Story of Jack: the Scarecrow Blow Mold

I want to tell you the story about my favorite blow mold, which is named Jack. I’m not sure if my father coined the name Jack or if it was me – but somehow this blow mold ended up being called Jack!

Now Jack was not always my favorite blow mold…in fact, my family had this Halloween decoration for as long as I can remember and at the very beginning I HATED Jack.
