Happy New Year!

And just like that it’s 2019! I am so excited for the highs and lows and adventure that awaits this year. Most importantly, I’m ready to countdown to another Halloween with you!

I started this blog only six months ago, and I have made such wonderful friends here. I wish everyone and their family a warm, happy and healthy 2019!

In true Halloween spirit, I wanted to do something festive to kick off a great year while staying true to my unusual nature. That meant, I needed to carve the first pumpkin of 2019 – a New Year’s gourd.

DIY Creepmas Spider Ornament

Happy Winter Solstice Halloween friends! I can’t believe we’re days away from Christmas and a new year. I hope that you have had a splendid 2018 and that luck and fortune will be with you in 2019! Speaking of luck…did you know, based on Ukrainian and Germanic folklore, a spider ornament on your Christmas tree will bring you good luck? The legend of the Christmas spider is also said to have been the story that inspired the popular decorating trend of draping silvery tinsel on the tree.

There is an ongoing superstition in Europe that spiders bring good luck – and the Christmas spider legend tells of a widowed mother living in poverty with her children. The children find a pine cone and tend to it with hopes that a tree will sprout in time for Christmas (which it did!). Once Christmas came, they could still not afford to decorate the tree. After the children fell asleep on Christmas, a spider is said to have spun a glittering web around the tree so that when the light hit it in the morning it shone and turned the web into gold and silver –  quite a sight to behold. The family was overjoyed and also were no longer living in poverty from that point on.

Spooky Good Style: Gruss Vom Krampus

I love the folk legend of Krampus! I also love the 2015 Michael Dougherty film, “Krampus” which has become a Christmas tradition that my husband and I watch each year.

To honor my passion for the half-goat, half-demon who punishes naughty children (I mean, c’mon, does receiving coal really inspire a child to behave or does a goat demon do the trick? My vote is for the goat demon…) I ordered this vintage inspired Krampus shirt on Amazon!

13 Days of Creepmas!

Merry Creepmas to all! I’m so excited to be bringing a bit of Halloween cheer into December by participating in the 13 Days of Creepmas.

What is Creepmas you ask? This is the season where Halloween lovers and Halloween online content creators share frights, delights and spooky things to keep the spirit alive.

Just as retailers roll out all things Christmas in September and make us feel the Holiday stress before Halloween comes around, us creepers strike back with chills and thrills to bring out the most unusual, strange and creepy things about the holidays!

Haunted Hometown: Tulsa Spirit Tours

A place is defined by it’s past – or the ghosts that are left behind. Tulsa, OK is no different than any other city in the U.S. , or in the world for that matter, because it has its fair share of ghosts.

I had the privilege to go on a Tulsa Spirit Tour a few days before Halloween this year! If you are a Tulsa history buff, you are interested in a city’s history, or just love a good ghost story – you need to a book a tour. They offer a variety of different tours throughout the year, but my husband and my friends and I chose the classic haunted Tulsa bus excursion. I went on the tour about ten years ago when it was a Paranormal Investigation Team of Tulsa (P.I.T.T.) Tour. Teri French, founder of P.I.T.T. and her ghost hunting colleagues are still a part of that team, but have upgraded and transformed their haunted tours since then and now call them “Tulsa Spirit Tours”.

I wanted to share a little bit about all of the haunted and fascinating spots we went to but each tour is slightly different – I won’t go into too much detail, because I want to ensure that I don’t giveaway too many intriguing facts so that YOU can experience a tour someday for yourself!

How I celebrate Halloween all year long!

The candy has been passed out, the pumpkins have been carved, the decorations are coming down and our frightfully fun costume creations limply hang lifeless in the closet – this is enough to spark all of the sad feelings that Halloween has certainly passed and we have to wait another year to revel in it’s delights once again. But fear not, that’s not the case! If you love something, you don’t have to let it go! So if you LOVE Halloween like me, enjoy it every day, week, and month of the year! Becoming Beetlejuice

I love having reasons to dress up multiple times during the Halloween season. Last fall, I had reason for the multiple trips to Salem I took and this year I’ve dressed up for our Halloween party and the 4th annual Black Mold Halloween Bash. This event features Tulsa’s local bands playing cover sets and bands and attendees always dress up. I wanted to test my makeup skills and patience and transform into Beetlejuice just for the occasion (the lead singer of one of the bands was also Beetlejuice, a timeless and appropriate look for any Halloween occasion!).

My 2018 Monster Mash Bash!

Monster Mash Bash

This year’s Monster Mash Bash was a hit and a scary good time was had by all! I appreciated everyone’s compliments towards my creepy castle – some guests assumed it was just to liven up the party but I had to divulge, this creepy castle gets creeped out on Sept. 1 every year. The only way I know to enjoy Halloween decor and hoarding habits is to display it sooner and longer!

Becoming Ash Williams

I think I decided that I was going to be Ash Williams for Halloween this year sometime last year.  It’s not unusual for me to keep a running list of all of the characters I might want to transform into come Halloween. The idea hit me while watching the Ash VS Evil Dead series. I was enjoying it so much I decided I needed a piece of the Evil Dead universe myself and become the deadite-fighting-anti-hero: Ash!

Haunted Hometown: Cain’s Ballroom

The Cain’s Ballroom is one of my all time favorite places in my hometown. I had my high school senior photos taken there, and have witnessed so much talent and music within those walls. It’s always been a dream of mine to perform there myself (I’m an amateur singer-songwriter), which is a dream that is yet to be realized. This place also has a strong pop-culture history and has helped to shape Tulsa as the city it is.

I’ll never forget the FIRST time I came to the Cain’s Ballroom. I was in middle school and attended the Coheed and Cambria and A.F.I. show there in 2004 with my brother and my dad (definitely a sign of the times and my music taste…). I have grown up with some pretty awesome parents who have embraced and instilled in me a deep love of music – so much so they gave up their evening to escort their adolescent children to an emo-punk-rock concert on a school night.

I aspire to be a cool parent like that someday…but, I digress! Let’s dive into the history and reported hauntings at this iconic music venue.
