My 2018 Monster Mash Bash!

Monster Mash Bash

This year’s Monster Mash Bash was a hit and a scary good time was had by all! I appreciated everyone’s compliments towards my creepy castle – some guests assumed it was just to liven up the party but I had to divulge, this creepy castle gets creeped out on Sept. 1 every year. The only way I know to enjoy Halloween decor and hoarding habits is to display it sooner and longer!

Keep reading to see some photos of my guests and their costumes and to get some inspiration for your upcoming or next Halloween shindig.

Becoming Ash Williams

I think I decided that I was going to be Ash Williams for Halloween this year sometime last year.  It’s not unusual for me to keep a running list of all of the characters I might want to transform into come Halloween. The idea hit me while watching the Ash VS Evil Dead series. I was enjoying it so much I decided I needed a piece of the Evil Dead universe myself and become the deadite-fighting-anti-hero: Ash!

Creepy Crawly Spider Cookies

I’m getting excited for my Monster Mash Bash Halloween party happening on October 20! So much so, that I’m beginning to make ghoulish treats for all of my friends to enjoy. Nothing puts a smile on your face than some treats with a little spooky personality to them.

The only issue I run into is that working 40 hours a week can make you feel less than enthusiastic about whipping up something homemade.  That’s why I want to share this easy and quick and frightfully festive spider cookie recipe with you! It’s perfect to put together on a weeknight or when you’re running out of time to make something spooktacular to treat and delight your pals.

Haunted Hometown: Cain’s Ballroom

cains haunted hometown

The Cain’s Ballroom is one of my all time favorite places in my hometown. I had my high school senior photos taken there, and have witnessed so much talent and music within those walls. It’s always been a dream of mine to perform there myself (I’m an amateur singer-songwriter), which is a dream that is yet to be realized. This place also has a strong pop-culture history and has helped to shape Tulsa as the city it is.

I’ll never forget the FIRST time I came to the Cain’s Ballroom. I was in middle school and attended the Coheed and Cambria and A.F.I. show there in 2004 with my brother and my dad (definitely a sign of the times and my music taste…). I have grown up with some pretty awesome parents who have embraced and instilled in me a deep love of music – so much so they gave up their evening to escort their adolescent children to an emo-punk-rock concert on a school night.

I aspire to be a cool parent like that someday…but, I digress! Let’s dive into the history and reported hauntings at this iconic music venue.

Spooky Good Style: Creep in a T-Shirt

Creep (both 1 and 2) is one of my absolute favorite thriller movies.  There’s something so disturbing and perfect about this movie written and produced by Patrick Brice and Mark Duplass (I love Mark Duplass’s work – acting, his band, eveything!).

So it was a given that I would jump on the opportunity to promote and show off my favorite thriller in fashion form when Cavity Colors released their Creep line this fall!

Simple Pumpkin Blended Coffee

blended pkin coffee

I am not a fan of the typical store bought pumpkin spice coffee – but I have created a pumpkin blended coffee that I do enjoy! At times, the “pumpkin spice” essence in coffee leaves a bit of a chemical after taste (to me at least) so I blend my coffee with real pumpkin, brown sugar and cinnamon for a sweet, creamy pumpkin treat.

I am terrible at providing accurate measurements for this recipe (it was an “eyeballing it’ creation), so please use it as an inspiration for creating your own unique blended pumpkin coffee and adjust to your liking! Read more below to see how I make mine:

My 2018 Outdoor Haunt

One of my favorite things about the Halloween season is driving around and seeing everyone’s haunted houses, spooky stoops, and grinning gourds. I decided (despite the unseasonably warm temperature) to haunt the front of my house that last week in September and wanted to share with you how it turned out!

Easy Halloween Card Display

This is my first time sending and receiving Halloween cards from the amazing ghouls in the online Halloween community. I have appreciated all of the kindness and support from everyone AND all of the spooktacular Halloween wishes! There’s nothing like ringing in October than sending off and receiving a bright orange envelopes in the mailbox! I wanted to display my greetings I’ve received – but I wanted to do so the impatient crafter way. This October has been very business with work events and family events already so I wanted to show them off quickly.

Spooky Good Style: New Creepy Rags!

I feel like I’ve been representing fall in my wardrobe since the summer. A) Because I’m always cold and B) because I simply gravitate towards fall looks, colors and sweaters thus I do not have many more options.

I’ve received some messages and comments on my Instagram about where I found some of my new spooky rags along with this totally pumpkin orange loose knit sweater – so a blog post was warranted! Continue reading “Spooky Good Style: New Creepy Rags!”
