I’m back again with an easy, fun, DIY that can mostly be create out of things around your home!
My budget is tight this year, so I’m trying to get creative with ways I can upcycle things to make something new for Halloween without breaking the bank.
If you have cereal boxes or other thin cardboard, tissue paper, glue and tape you can create your very own piñata for decor or for your next Halloween bash!

First step, is to decide what kind of spooky form you want to make! I chose to make a pumpkin and ghost piñata. I cut open the cereal boxes and traced two outlines (front and back) and be sure to save the sides of the box to trim out and seal up your piñata.

Once you have cut out your shape and the box edges, seal the edge pieces around the shape to create the 3D box that will hold your goodies and treats (be sure to cut a flap at the top OR line up two flaps to easily open and fill treats into the box once done…see the photos below for a better explanation of that step).

Once your piñata box is assembled it is not time to add the tissue paper and the flair!
I had to find orange tissue paper on Amazon because my Dollar Tree did not have any in stock, and I even looked for crepe paper (which can also be used if tissue paper isn’t desired for the the look you want to achieve or if it’s cheaper for ya).
To add layers of fringe, I cut strips of paper and glued them in layers. I found plain Elmers school glue worked best, but there is spray adhesive or glue sticks that could work just as well.

Once the strips dry, you can play barber shop and snip all the little fringe pieces you want! This is the fun step!
After the fringe is completed, you can now give your creation some personality. I cut out eyes and a mouth for my pumpkin palm out of black construction paper then glued them down.

This shape was a little intricate, and I found the simpler the shape the easier it is to connect the boxes. That’s what I loved about the ghostie friend I made to keep my pumpkin company.
I repeated the same steps I used for the pumpkin for the ghost in the photos below, I just swapped the orange tissue paper for white, which can be found at dollar tree, Walmart, or other stores fairly cheap.

Voila! Two fun and whimsical new Halloween piñatas to add some spooky joy to those hot summery days!
I hope you feel inspired to make one too!
Stay spooky,
Callie Jo
