I adore the book “The Legend of Spookley the Square Pumpkin!” It is the cutest little tale about how wonderful it is to embrace the qualities that make you unique from everyone else, and they might even be the qualities needed to save the day!
If your child loves this book as much as our family does, then you can keep the story going with a fun little DIY “Spookley’s Pumpkin Patch Shape Match” game.

I freehanded this activity, but you are welcome to print shapes out or make your own pumpkin patch digitally if that better suits your needs.
I simply drew a pumpkin patch with various shape outlines, and then created a colorful fun-shaped pumpkin on another piece of construction paper to be the “match” for my kiddo to place into the pumpkin patch.

Being a mom of two toddlers, I like quick and simple ideas that are extensions of some of our favorite tales, so I wanted to share this fun activity that your family can combine with your Spookley read-aloud!
My oldest son really enjoyed this, and I may make another game but laminate this time because he had a bit too much fun and tried to create his own shape puzzle by tearing apart and then trying to reconnect all of the shapes.
It’s a great way to talk about colors, shapes and count the different shapes/how many pumpkins there are which is a great learning activity all bundled into one spooky little pumpkin patch.
I hope this inspires some fun for your family this fall.
Stay spooky,
Callie Jo
